Training Program

The WCC Half Training Program will run from January 7 right up to the race on March 29, 2015.  Although intended to successfully guide first-time-half-marathoners across the finish line, half veterans will also benefit from the individual training plan, informational clinics, and group support.  

***Note: This is not intended to be a "couch-to-half marathon" training program.  All program participants are expected to be able to run or run/walk a 5k (3.1 miles) by the time the training program starts in January.

Support - the coaches of the training program have extensive experience both as coaches and runners and have an infectious love of just getting out there and being active!  They are all available to you, the athlete, outside of the formal clinic times and scheduled group runs as a resource to you.  They are here to help you succeed and meet your running goals.

Individual Training Plan - 12-week, progressive training plan for all individuals to safely and effectively ramp up the mileage to complete the Half Marathon distance.

Clinics - led by our coaches,    

January 7, 7pm- KICK OFF (Rick Muhr) (at Whitin Community Center)
January 24 (SATURDAY), 7:30am - weekly run then Yoga for Runners (at Miles to go Sports)
January 28, 7pm - Newton Running Company: form running clinic (at Miles to go Sports)
February 4, 7pm - Nutrition Seminar (at Whitin Community Center)
February 18, 7pm - Foam Rolling with Dozois (at Miles to go Sports)
March 4, 7pm - Strength Training (at Whitin Community Center)
March 18, 7pm - Gentle Yoga (at Miles to go Sports)
March 29 - RACE DAY!!

Group runs - although each participant in the program will be provided with an individual training program, group runs will be organized Saturday mornings at 8:30am starting on January 10, 2015.  This will consist of the "long" run for that week per the training plan and will be based out of the Whitin Community Center and run "on-course". Pace groups will be created based on participants present that morning.

Cost - $120 for the 12-week program, including week-by-week training plan, clinics, and even a special race singlet/shirt made custom just for training program participants.   Registration for the program is available with on-line registration with the Half Marathon by January 9 (first week of training).
