The Wallum Twilight Fatbike Mountain Bike Race, part of the Central MA Snow Series, presented by Bike + Life is back again!  Saturday evening January 28, 2017
(6pm snowshoe trail run, 7pm fatbike mountain bike)!

A 6 mile course will be biked once for the Novice/Sport fatbike division, and twice for the Expert division. The course is mix of double wide tracks and fireroads through Douglas State Forest, but a few new ections of flowy singletrack too.  Make sure you have your lights, as the race doesn't start until the sun goes down (6pm start for run, 7pm for bike)!

We'll have the bumdrums fire pits going all night too, just in case the crisp February evening air puts a chill on you. The Hot Pie Guy will be there too serving up fresh baked goodness all night!

* In the event where there is not enough snow for snowshoes or fat bikes, we'll change the format of the race to be a trail race and open up the bike race to skinnies.  We'll announce this at least 2 days before the race date. We're racing no matter what!

1/19 update: with no snow on the ground and none in the forecast, we've opened the race to mountain bikes of all shapes and sizes!
1/26 update: some bare spots, some wet spots, and some spots with about an 1" of thick, wet snow.

Bikes + Life will be there starting at 4pm with a line-up of Fatbikes for folks to demo before the race

Fees:  are on-line only ($5 discount for under 20 years old (Junior)).  Day-of registration will NOT be available; this is to encourage pre-registration so we can just focus on the RACE on race day with multiple start times and not paperwork. As with the prior off-road races, this year will be a no-frills set up; no shirts or other swag, and awards will be modest.  We just want folks to come out and have fun on the trails. Want to do both events?  Use the special code found in your confirmation email for the first event and enjoy a 50% discount on the second event.

Race Day awards
Fatbike:  Top Overall Male/Female in each division (Novice/Sport and Expert)

*Top Male/Female Expert winners (either division) earn $25 gift card and bike jersey from Bikes + Life

FAQS

Q: Do I need an EFTA license to race?
A:

Yes. As this is an EFTA sanctioned race, all riders are required to be an annual (current) member or purchase a one day license.  One day license can be purchased during online registration.

Q: What is the race cancelation policy?
A:

To ensure the safest event for the participants and all involved, we reserve the right to cancel, delay, or modify the format of the event at anytime. Believe us, it would have to be a very, very SERIOUS and DANGEROUS situation for the event to be canceled. But in the unfortunate situation this is required, there is a no-refund policy in place, as the majority of the costs have already been incurred to host the event and when associated, we do not want to take away any contributions to our charities. We expect you to be disappointed if the event is canceled, as we will be, but we also hope you understand why a no-refund policy is in place.

Q: Are there any refunds or transfers?
A:
Sorry, all registrations are final; there are no refunds or transfers to other participants.  Within 10 days of the event, you can transfer your paid registration to another future event, for a small fee.  Please see the Transfer page for full details.  If you are unable to do the event please let us know ASAP so someone else can take your spot.

Q: How many participants will be allowed to register?
A:
The race capacity is 150 people (combined fatbike and snowshoe).

Q:  Is the event chip-timed?
A: No.  We use an on-line application called Webscorer to manually track when you cross the finish line, then the application automatically computes the overall finish times an Age Division placement.

Q: How many water stations are on the run course?
A:
There will be no (0) aid stations on the course, but there might be some Fireball for those looking to warm up a bit.

Q: What size bike tire is allowed?
A:
Fatbikes only, so minimum tire size is 3.7 in.  In the event there isn't any/enough snow, we'll open it up to skinnies.

Q: Are bike helmets needed for bike race?
A:
 Yes, no exceptions.
